Breach: A Revolution in Office Design

Wenlong Xie's Award-Winning Design Transforms the Workplace

Inspired by the simplicity of an art gallery, Wenlong Xie's office design, Breach, redefines the concept of a workplace. This innovative design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, is a testament to the power of creativity and the potential of architecture to transform everyday experiences.

Wenlong Xie's design is a departure from traditional office spaces. Drawing inspiration from art galleries, Xie has created a workplace that is people-oriented, warm, and inviting. The use of white, a color often associated with simplicity and practicality, is a deliberate choice to create an environment that promotes peace and a sense of safety. The introduction of elements such as sunshine, plants, and wood further enhances the warmth of the space, creating a workplace where people can connect with their inner selves.

Breach is not just an office space; it's a realm that interprets architects' professional value and taste. By breaking through the limitations of interior space, Xie has created a work and living place that exudes simplicity and quietness. This design concept aims to relieve architects' pressure and ignite their enthusiasm, thus making the office a source of inspiration rather than a place of stress.

The realization of this design was made possible through the use of environmentally friendly building materials such as white oak, glass, late-model light pipe, rain-sensing automatic lighting skylight, and thermal insulation and soundproof wall coatings. These materials, simple in form yet not simple in function, contribute to the comfortable geometric space that characterizes Breach. The harmonious color scheme of the floor, ceiling, and pillars complements the building materials, resulting in a space that radiates comfort and professional charm.

The construction of Breach, which covers a total area of 2600 square meters, was a complex process that required careful planning and execution. The building's hollow steel structure, which connects the fourth and fifth floors, is a testament to the designer's innovative approach to space utilization. The project, which began in August 2016 in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, was completed in January 2018 and officially put into use on February 2, 2018.

Despite the challenges posed by the office's location and the dispersion between the two buildings, Xie and his team were able to create a space that promotes interaction and collaboration. The office areas were systemized with order, with separate areas for conferences, reception, relaxation, and storage. This thoughtful design ensures that the needs of the 179 architects working in the space are met, thus contributing to their productivity and overall well-being.

In conclusion, Wenlong Xie's Breach is a shining example of how thoughtful design can transform a workplace into a space that promotes creativity, collaboration, and well-being. This award-winning design is a testament to Xie's innovative approach to architecture and his commitment to creating spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and emotionally satisfying.
